We have an almost 2 week old chick with a new problem....earlier in her life (day 1-3) had to be washed several times for pasting but since then had been quite well until yesterday. Started to hold her tail feathers angled downward repetitively. Had some stool in area again, though below the vent and not on it which was washed off without a squeak yesterday. Some down is gone in the area after all her events...
She continues to push her tail down over and over, almost straining but no poop is there. Now, she appears to have very thin skin a centimeter or so below her vent. Looks like bulging bowel pushing in and out but also sort of just looks like air bubble, really seems to move In and out with her breaths... Probably under 1 cm in diameter.

I'm not sure what to do. If anyone knows about this any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I don't want her to suffer....no one is picking on her, she is still getting around fine but not partaking in the regular chicken games.

................

She is now 2 weeks old; growing, eating, and still active though less than the other chicks. The bulge appears to be getting bigger...

Oh man, I don't like the look of that at all! Seems super scary I would take her to the vet asap. I found a poultry vet at a Petco for only $48. Call some random Vets and ask if they can refer you to a poultry or avian doctor.

Maybe its some sort of abscess? Does it hurt to touch it?

I know, it is horrible. It does not stick out at all until she breaths in. It truly appears to be air. Not similar to the subcutaneous emphysema type from what I can tell though...
Doesnt seem to hurt when I touch it. I'm very worried and know this is likely something irreversible. ...
She really keeps growing despite it. Flies around and does her chicken things, just slightly less than the others...

awe makes me sad for your chicky

I hope you can figure it out it looks serious. Chickens are good at being chickens but it since its affecting her even slightly makes me think it'll get worse.

If you find an answer let me know, plz, its so crazy looking Im very interested.
