2 week old chicks dropping dead

Probably because it was a backwoods chicken feed store, says he gives it to all his chicks for a week right when he gets them. I've never bought chickens from him though.

And yes, we put chick grit in with them.

That's a bad and really a useless practice. It only would mask symptoms of something that you need to come to the surface in order to know what you're dealing with. So, in the future, of course, I'd avoid doing that. If he doesn't disinfect his feeders, waterers and brooders properly, he can spread all sorts of things to new batches of chicks he gets. And, though most folks don't know this, bleach does not kill the oocycsts that cause cocci. Ammonia does, but not bleach.

I'm so glad I just found this since I was having the same issues. I ordered a lot of chicks and they had made it to two weeks as well, and they are dying left and right. These are by no means my first chicks, but I have certainly never had a disease. Every time I check them I find more and it makes me want to be sick. I had also fed them medicated started feed and just assumed that would be enough. I will now used non medicated with the corid. Thanks for the advice and sorry for hijacking your thread.
