Hi all...
This is one of my silkie chicks who seems to be developing a crooked beak? Has anyone ever encountered this and what should I do to treat it? Thanks, Cheep

If you search crooked beak there are quite a few posts with many experiences from people who have raised these birds. I have raised one and his beak started like that and eventually they were off set by about 90 degrees, with the bottom one facing left.

Possible causes are genetics, and injury. Most of the time it is genetics.

There is not much you can do about it other than make sure feed dishes are deep and that it gets enough to eat. It is a problem with the growth of the bone plate in their skulls. Sometimes filing down the beak can help.

I would not use that bird for breeding, and it may have problems defending them self as they get older.

Best of luck.

Thanks Silkie...I did a search right after I posted the pic. Your photo was fabulous of your crooked beak!
I'm going to do the right thing. ----->she says trying to avoid controversy!
