I've now been a duckling mommy for about a week and a half (they're all still alive, so I must be doing ok!) They're now 2 full weeks old, and I can't believe how big they got already! I've never had ducks or chickens before this so it's been a learning experience. For the first couple days, I could literally see them grow overnight, but it's not quite so drastic anymore.

After doing some googling, I THINK I have two blue swedish and two black swedish. Yesterday, hubby made a bigger enclosure for them so they can move more freely, and today I picked up a bigger waterer for them (the little 1 qt one I had was lasting about 15 minutes LOL!)

Here's a new picture of my 2 week old babies :) I'm trying not to get too attached because they will be dinner eventually, but they've been a lot of fun to watch.

Wow they are adorable ! have you tried putting them in the bath in a few inches of water?

Yes, they get a bath daily since we brought them home! They absolutely love it :-) the other day the lighter billed gray one stood under the faucet with the water running over its bill lol

And yes, they are too cute to eat, but that was the agreement. Hubby doesn't like the idea of keeping ducks or chickens, we got these because they were free and they can be dinner at some point in the next few months, and my boys will get the experience of having them. If this all works out, I may be able to convince him to let me keep a couple, or get more later or something, once we have our meat rabbits established.

if your hubby spends enough time with them then he will prob get attached, its very easy to become fond of animals, especially ducks and chickens

Yeah, he told me from the start that he didn't want them, didn't think it was a good idea, and said it was up to me. And he said he wouldn't do anything for them, it was all me and the boys (so me lol). But the other day, he cleaned out the brooder while I was at work, gave them their bath, and after putting them back in the brooder and seeing that they really don't fit anymore, he built them a new pen in another room of the house, and got them all set up (I have a friend that was going to bring me a kiddie pool today, but this is even better!) And yesterday we brought them outside for the first time, and he sat there for about half an hour with us, helping get the ducks used to being handled, and was playing with one of them that seemed to like him. So it could happen! Even if he's cool with keeping any, we'd still probably reduce to two though. Unless they're amazing at cleaning up the pond, then they all have a fighting chance!

Very cute! they(ducks) can be quite endearing.

Here's some of the pics I took yesterday while we were outside in the yard!

they really are adorable :) . sounds like he has the beginings of attachment going on..... hahaha when we got sheep as a kid ( I was 4) they wernt for my dad, he wasn't interested at all. they were all for us. fast forward a few months and each night he was going up to see them, talk to them and scratch their backs. lets just say they didn't end up on the plate as planned...
hopefully they will become to much of a pet to eat
