We bought a Silver Laced Wyandotte on 4/29 along with four other chicks that are thriving nicely.
The chick wasn’t moving much so I took him back to the store and they said he had Splayed Leg.
My wife and I put a nice splint with a hair tie on him last week and took it off today. His leg was better.
We had him separated in a box today and I just went and checked on him and he was dead.
Any ideas? Too much stress?

We separated because he got his bad foot stuck in the bottom of the cage today. We were told to separate him while the brace was on his leg so that he wouldn’t be bothered by the others.
She was only separated for about an hour before she died here this afternoon. We had her inside with us.
The other problem is that, though the chick was eating and drinking nicely, he didn’t grow at all compared to the other chicks. He was still the size of a three day old chick.

Ah, crucial details emerge. Failure to thrive is often a mystery but your non-growing chick had something more wrong than splay leg.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. When I took him back to the supplier this week, they said his crop was full so he was definitely nourished. Oh, well.
