Original post:
I have a 2 year old barred rock hen with a fist sized lump on her left breast. I thought this might be impacted crop, but have read that the crop is on the right side of the breast. After 2 days of no change (the pics are two days apart), I started giving her water and olive oil and massaging the mass. As I gave her the liquids, she developed a squishy area on the right side near the bottom of the lump. I continued to massage it and separated her from my other chickens. She's pooping often and it looks normal. She's still perky and curious. After several hours of no food, supervised pooping, lots of water and massaging with no difference so far, I put her back in the coop. I checked on her and she's now got a squishy gritty golf ball sized lump near the mass. So she's eating and pooping and not acting abnormally. I can't afford a vet bill right now. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Update:
The mass is still the same size this morning and has not softened at all. The smaller squishy grittier lump to the right (her right) of the large mass is gone. I think that smaller lump was her crop, and everything seems to be going through ok. She's still in good spirits, aside from she's stripped the feathers from the front of the large mass. I've checked my other chickens and they're all looking good. My Americana has a lump as well, but it's half the size, on her right breast, and has some give when I squeeze it. I also weighed all 4 of my outside chickens. Each weighs in a 5 lbs. The barred rock doesn't seem skinnier than the others. For reference, I have a RIR, 2 BR, and the Americauna. All two years old.

Should I just let her be? Is this something else?

I feed them layer (pellets), garden and table scraps, they free range in the back yard occasionally, and have hay for nesting and also in the bottom of the run to help keep their feet drier.

It looks like a full crop. I have a few hens who are porkers and carry a crop around the size of a baseball.

I would keep her separate and monitor her eating. And massage 3-4 times a day if it's harder, and try to break it up with squeezing the harder areas. I would also check and see if you can find the cause of why the crop is on the left. If she's pooping normal, she might be moving things along all right.

My chicken crops have that grittiness to them too which I feel is normal.

Thanks for the reply! I have been checking on her all day. The mass isn't gritty at all. It has the consistency and firmness of a cooked chicken breast. I was referred to my local feed store owner (who is knowledgable with chickens). She says she doesn't think it's the crop either. She says that it sounds like a fatty growth. My hen is still acting fine and like the growth isn't bothering her at all.

She might have a pendulous crop. The "stripped feathers" could be where her breast is settling/rubbing on the roost at nights. She may need a 'crop bra.'

Update:

The barred rock formerly known as Breakfast has been renamed Lumpy. She still has her large lump on her chest. It doesn't hang any lower. She's still active (eating, pooping, laying, and educating the new chicks about the rules in the chicken coop. I'm convinced that this is some sort of fatty growth or tumor, but as it doesn't seem to be causing any discomfort or problems, I'm just going to let it be.

Thank you all for the replies! It's amazing how much we worry of our feathery kids!

Update:

I hade to put Lumpy down today. She's been a bit lethargic lately. Napping a lot. Stopped laying. Today I checked her and she was just laying on the bottom of the coop letting the other chickens walk over her. She couldn't stand on her own. I picked her up and she's lost a lot of weight. She feels like bone , feathers, and her lump. :( I did what I felt was the best thing for her...
