Hello everyone, finally decided to join this community!

Turns out my 2 y.o. female duck can't walk after my heavy drake overbred her. This happened about a week ago, we found her inside their swimming pool, barely moving. Took her out and both have been separated since then.

She had some problems getting up that day, gave her some Meloxicam for about 5 days and got better, she can stand up now but won't walk. During the past three days we've noticed that she stands on her own feet (picture) and tries to walk but can't do it herself. She has been swimming and definitely use both of her legs to do so, but when trying to move on the ground she'll open her wings to keep balance (not sure how to post a video of her "walking" on here, sorry).

Also, no eggs since then. She's eating and drinking enough but not as much as she used to. Also incorporated some brewer's yeast and vitamins on her diet. Is there anything else I can do to help her?

I would appreciate your advice, been calling different vets from my town, but everyone turns us down since they have no duck or poultry experience.

Btw, sorry if my English isn't the best

Agreed with cluckerdoodle! I also am not a vet, just speaking from experience. But separating her from the drake seems like a good idea. Maybe some "physical therapy" sessions in a pool where she can swim around would help her start walking again if she doesn't do well? We did that with another duck of ours who lost her ability to walk and it definitely helped her. Might not work with your girl, but it probably wouldn't hurt.

Hope she recovers!!

Have you felt her legs/joints to check for breaks? I agree it's probably a sprain. You might put her in a crate (to limit movement) in the run with the other ducks. My Welsh Harlequin has had 2 sprains in the past fewmonths. A little "down time" helped her immensely.

If she is sprained, a week later and she's still not able to walk? That's concerning, normally after sprains / injuries, after a week, they may limp or show signs of distress but at least be able to walk again etc.

Also check her feet real good to make sure there is not something sticking in a foot or something. Swimming, the legs are whirling but feet are not really touching anything, putting pressure on them. Walking, we ARE putting pressure on feet / things. If there is damage on the bottom, something poked into her foot, THEN is when it'd manifest itself most and she'd do what she is doing.

Either way, this is something that is probably best to do anyways, just to check it off the list, that you looked her over very carefully for any obvious issues.

poor girl, hope she gets better soon !

What breeds are we talking about?
Sprains can take quite a while to heal. Giving her plenty of time away from the drake is good. water therapy which your already doing is good. Vitamins and instead of Brewers yeast, I'd put her on some liquid B complex if you can get it. I have to order since my feed store doesn't carry it. 1ml on something tasty she really likes. the liquid works so well for niacin deficiency and I feel it can also help support when there is an injury. Although I am not a vet either. But many of us have had good responses from the liquid B complex
So rest from the drake, water therapy and good nutritional feed and vitamins plus time. I'd keep her where she can see everyone but she isn't having to fend off the drake or do alot of walking or running.

I did check on her last night, didn't find much besides an extra small scar on her left foot, however, I don't think that's the problem since it looks quite old and not even 0.5cm long.

Thanks for the advice though!

Drake is a Pekin and she's a Rouen. We don't want to breed them or anything, they're only pet ducks and love them so much.

I'll check if I can get some at my local vet store, but wondering if we could try B complex shots? We have those at home right now, but not sure if that would be okay since I know it hurts so damn much!

I've been doing that, pretty sure it's a sprain but still worried about it since the drake is basically twice her size ):
