my boys train has a ways to go this year then.
his is pretty spindly so far.
but he still has a few months till breeding season hits us (I think it hits about april here)

Mine get small trains but not one bird has eyes on a train until they are growing the 3 year trains. I do not know why some people's peas get eyes at 1-2 years and mine in CT don't LOL

poppy had a couple small eye feathers last year (as a 1 year old)
but nothing too spectacular.

I assume its the same as with people.
some people develop father than others.

zaz you have inspired me.
I am going to brave the cold . branding goodies and snap a few new pics.
altho I know I will not get anyone displaying. my kids are stubborn and always quit when they see a camera

Perhaps the area you live in and mother nature have something to do with it, spring comes early here winter usually comes late so there is a reason to grow a train early ,mating is occurring now here and laying will start soon after, i could be wrong mabe others up north can chime in.

Also just about every hen i have here has layed at a year of age and 7 of them gave me eggs and babies at the age of 2

They are beautiful and the snow makes a beautiful backdrop with the sun shinning, looks refreshing, i love cold weather as long as the wind isn't blowing it up my britches
