2+ years to get approval for chickens

After over two years of petitioning and fighting with local board of supervisors we finally got chickens approved. (And we live in an agriculture county) But thank the Lord we were approved and having 2 years to plan consider and design my girls home, I got to build and rebuild, on paper, many times and it took about 7 days to construct and have ready. So here it is.

Built pen earlier than planned was asked to take 6 young hens from friend but somehow it fell through and pen was already in construction so i finished. But local Co-op has chicks on the way! Going to start with 15-20 chicks and breed depends on what comes in and fellow chicken friends flocks.
The zoning issues in, Botetourt Co VA, were do to the board adopting zoning laws from a non-agriculture town from the east coast back in 2006 and belive it or not if you were not zoned Agricultural you could not have any type of livestock including bees, no matter how much land you have (I have a tad over 2 acres) And we had over 7,000 residents in violation of this zoning law, their policy was they wouldn't write a violation if no one complained but was still illegal so we had to wait and fight to make it legal.
We will be completely organic with chickens as we are with our gardening and fruit trees, our ladies will finally complete our Eco-system and the eggs will be a bonus!

Unfortunately yes i would like to have a rooster for fertilization but seriously doubt that will ever go through we were elated to just get them to approve the ladies.

Nice coop you've built, but would be mighty crowded with 15-20 birds.

That’s great! I’m glad you and others can now be legal in keeping chickens! You’ll have an enjoyable year raising them, and getting first eggs!

Actually it's 50 sq ft with 8ft walls 10 ft to peak inside with enough roosts for 28 birds and has 8 nesting boxes. And the run is 380sq ft. 16'x24' At 6.5 ft high 1/2 opened (covered w/one inch chicken wire) and 1/2 covered. I should be fine. I always over build just in case.
