hi i have 4 chickens all around the same age, other 3 have been laying for approx 2 weeks now. this chicken - Penny, is a rhode rock. She had been quiet and sitting all day on the nest 2 weeks ago for several days but never laid anything. For the past 4 days now she has been doing the same thing. Her head is kinda scrunched down, she walks slowly, has a creamy yellow discharge and her vent is constantly pulsing as though she is trying to expel something.
She is drinking well, eats little and is easily put off when the other 3 robust chickens gobble the food up beside her. She lets me pick her up and I have managed to give her 2 warm baths.
There have been 5 soft shelled eggs in the nest and around the chicken run but i have never managed to see who is laying them,
I have taken several pictures to show you but the ones of her vent area were taken one handed as I had Penny under one arm - so it was as good as I could get.
There is no nasty odour from the discharge and her perineal area (is that what you call it in chicks?) is not red or inflamed looking.
She seems to have lost weight as I can feel her breastbone very easily although she looks all puffy with her feathers.
I have tried to feel if there is any hardness in her abdomen but can't feel anything obvious.
I am new to this venture and keen to do what I can to help without resorting to vets in the first instance.
Can you help please?
I am having problems with my memory card so will try and get photos later, sorry

You could try treating her as if she were eggbound. Put her in a warm bath for maybe 20 or 30 minutes, to relax her, then put her by herself someplace warm, comfortable and fairly well dark, to encourage rest. Put a bit of mineral oil or hemorrhoid ointment in and around her vent. Give her a day or two to see if she passes anything. That's just a few of the approaches people use. She could also be an internal layer. Lots of threads here on both conditions.

Good luck!
