I should just leave this. I have been getting a lot of angry posts about my suggestion that this rooster belonged in the pot. The usual comment is that he was a beloved pet and that he passed so tragically. This chicken, beloved pet or not, ATTACKED THE OP'S MOTHER!! Do you people consider this to be OK? Do you really think he wouldn't do it again? Given his age, he was just getting started. My perspective may be colored by the fact that my cousin's beloved pet rooster attacked her little girl, spurred her in the face, and injured her in the eye. She did not lose her eyesight but it was touch and go for a time. My cousin kept saying, "But he was my baby. He never did anything like this before. He did charge at us once in a while, but he was just playing". Playing my foot!! He was out to show his dominance and one little girl paid the price.

You know, I was going to leave this one alone but your comment was really gnawing at me all day. I sincerely hope that you have some tact when it comes to speaking to people you actually know who are suffering a loss or a crisis, no matter the severity.

At the least, I hope you don't encounter someone whose as seemingly heartless or negligent with their commentary when you're hurting as you have been on this thread. Just some food for thought.
You are right. OK. I get it. Not my circus. Not my monkeys

@cluckingheck .

I am sorry for everything you have been through regarding your young roo.

I saw the post you made a page or two back about not wanting to keep this thread going. I think if you hit report on your initial post you can request the thread to be closed.
Moderators are pretty good about handling it.

Uhmm.. this is a public forum where ALL are welcome and whether I like everything that's said or not.. it's MY choice if I respond.

Whether I agree with tact or not.. doesn't change the right to free speech.

If only I was perfect enough that everything came out of my mouth in exactly the right way at exactly the right time. Yet we are all TRYING to support each other in the best way we can.

I knew he SHOULD have been pot bound on the very first post I read about him (love the name Foghorn) but decided to butt out since the OP clearly wasn't open.. instead of wasting my effort. But saying so wouldn't have been heartless.. it would have been an opinion... and statement of fact what I would do in the same situation according to my past experiences.

And even those of us who do dispatch, harvest, cull or whatever you wish to call it.. still feel something when we do it.. it's not just maliciously taking a life.. it's a conscious effort to control our emotions to the betterment of our families and our flocks! This is what it looks like when $#it gets real. :hugs

Would I eat a pet... well, fortunately I live with plenty of sustenance and don't face hunger daily. Yes, I ate my favorite rooster when he unexpectedly passed. I mourned his loss and cried plenty.. but what was I going to do.. trash the fresh meat and basically waste his energy? Would that make me feel better?

I'm sorry.. Loss hurts! :hugs

I am so sorry for your loss, I have been reading this since you first posted and that rooster was a beloved pet. I’m also sorry for all the hate your getting that you do NOT deserve. He was a beautiful rooster and we can tell you loved him a lot. You gave him a great life and he appreciated that.

Not going to find a pity party here after your antics.

All that is simply requested is you refrain from the inappropriate commentary. Somehow, you haven’t gotten the point.
WHAT pity party??? I did get the point. The point that I have been on BYC quite long enough? Got it.
