sort of. he’ll take a few sips but won’t do much else, you have to give him more water through the syringe. i think his neck still hurts and he doesn’t want to lift his head up like he’s supposed to when getting a drink.

This is a tough situation and you're doing a really good job. HE is doing a SUPER job of resting & recuperating! While I initially thought concussion, too, & still think he has one, I was wondering if she might have cracked his little skull and or a bone in his neck. (Rhetorical, as there's no real way to know.) The pupils reacting to light is a good sign & it seems like he will come out of this, thankfully. Their bones can knit together quite well & I think that if he did indeed suffer a skull fracture, he is seemingly on the mend.

Sorry about your little Foghorn's troubles. He is a very handsome bird & he's definitely responding to you & all of your efforts. If you two weren't bonded before, you sure will be now!

As for you Mother & that broom: Some day, you'll have a place of your own & won't have that concern. You'll have other concerns, I'm sure, but someone clobbering a bird won't be one of them.

At least she's helping to nurse him back to health, so there's that... Oh & I'm thankful for your cousin, his help & experience with chickens.

Can he sit up on his own? It sorta looked like he was sitting in your video.

We had a rooster that was too aggressive and my husband smacked him a little to hard. I think his brains got addled some. Not as bad as your guy but forever after he'd random shake his head and never attacked again. They are fragile in some ways with their thin bird bones and tiny brains. You don't realize it until too late sometimes.

no, he can’t yet. i had him propped up between my legs because it was just me feeding & watering him. he falls over when i try to set him down in a sitting position, that’s why i had my phone resting up against a standing. i wanted my hands free in case he started sliding.

yeah, there’s definitely something not clicking right but he seems like he’s getting better. he was a little sleepy this evening, though.

i put him back in the sling this morning before i left to go to classes and he fought me some. he got some baby aspirin in him last night and it seemed like it made him feel better. it’s another step and better than when he just laid there. i’ll take him putting up a fuss over him being listless.

So what are your plans for him if he recovers and his bad behavior continues or even gets worse? (I hope he does recover and behaves himself in the future, but I think it is important for people to think about and be prepared for the worst case scenarios. Also the advice to hold and carry around a poorly behaved cockerel seems great-until that bird decides he doesn’t want to be held, reaches down and bites your arm and won’t let go until a chunk of you is missing.)

i don’t know, we’d probably put him down at the point if he gets worse attitude wise. he’s not bad because he doesn’t bother anyone else — just my mom. im pretty sure it’s because she’s terrified of roosters and he’s picking up on that. hopefully, with both of us taking care of him, it calms him down. i’ll admit, i didn’t spend enough time with them when they were chicks.
