20-week old pullet sneezing/gaping

Any improvement now that she's been on the Gallimycin for a few days?

Hey, Stacey. She's improving in most every way, except the sneezing. I'm so frustrated. Today begins day 7 of treatment. She's eating on her own (although not quite enough, but getting there), dust bathing, looking great...even chortled (not sure if that's the right word - sounds like when you roll your tongue) a little bit when I was carrying her around yesterday. I think I'll post on Doc Brown's site again and see what he thinks. I have not done the nasal flush yet...a bit leery of that, but maybe it's time now. Thanks for asking, and for caring!

Thanks so much, John! Yes, Wonder Woman would be appropriate for her! She was a feisty one before she got sick, so I'm hoping that feisty attitude will help her pull through.

I don't know what this is but we had one of our polish roos do this. We brought him in the house and put him in our makeshift brooder (a rubbermaid container with a screen for the top) and put a heat lamp on him. Warmed him up real good and babied him till it got sunny out again and let him run during the day. He still sounds funny but he is crowing and running round and eating well. Guess we caught him fast enough.

Hey Wynette, thanks for the update. I remember you purchased the Oxine ~ are you using that as a mist/fogger yet? I recall when K.J. Theodore did that on her sick bird, it took several days to clear up.

Good luck ~ we'll be looking for updates. If I find anything else in my research I'll share it.

Thanks, Jenski. I have not yet done the Oxine as a mist; I do not have a mister. I sprayed her in the face with Oxine/water on the very fine mist setting of my spray bottle - I used a spray bottle that is used to spray plants for insects that has a pump on it to pressurize it, although even on the finest setting, I'm not at all sure she's breathing any. I'm going to do an Oxine/water nasal flush on her tonight to see if that helps. Thanks so much for your feedback!

I should think the spray bottle you have will be just fine. If you are using the recommended 6.5 ounces of Oxine in 1 gallon of water, you can spritz right above her head and let the mist fall over her. (If you have a quart sprayer like I do, divide those amounts by four, of course.) Try this 2-3 times a day for a week and see how that works.

If it were me, I would also do the Oxine in her drinking water (1/8 teaspoon of Oxine per gallon of water) for 24 hours, and then change the water out completely and add a water-soluble probiotic the next day. (If you don't have that, you could do yogurt.) The Oxine will clean out remaining harmful bacteria in her throat and digestive tract, and the probiotic will help restore the beneficial bacteria. Not completely sure if that would help, but it surely can't hurt at this point.

(**I would wait until AFTER my round of antibiotics was finished before using the Oxine internally, though. I don't like mixing that stuff.**)
