20-week old pullet sneezing/gaping

I don't think it is CRD, I am thinking more along the lines of Newcastle. I was reading in my book the other day and ran across page 290 about the Newcastle Disease. I read the whole thing over several times and am thinking now that is what was wrong with my flock instead of the Coryza. There was always a few symptoms missing with the Coryza diagnosis, but this description of the Newcastle fit my flock to the tee. The reason I was asking you about the drooping wing is because before I lost 5 or 6 of my chicks, they all starting craning their necks and gasping/mouth breathing like you described that yours is doing. That goes with the Newcastle. Watch her wing closely and see if she starts to hang one or both of them. Then I would watch to see if she become listless and doesn't move around a lot. Go ahead and read page 290 and let me know what you think.

I also wanted to add that I know the rest of your flock seems fine, but you really need to watch them now. I hope and pray that I'm wrong in thinking what I am.

I just read on Newcastle. She's not wheezing, gasping, or coughing...sneezing with a squeak, though.

I had 2 birds that were sneezing & lethargic which I treated with Tylan and they responded and are fine now - both from that pen. Those were 2 weeks ago and 3 weeks ago. So, I assumed that this girl would be fine as well, once treated with Tylan; however, the other 2 were not gaping, as she is.

I went to check on her about half hour ago, and she's not stretching her neck out and gaping now, but she IS sitting on her roost with her mouth open.

I suppose it could be Newcastle, and maybe she's only showing one symptom so far? I'm so frustrated and sad...she's a beautiful bird, a splash marans. I was SO looking forward to watching her grow up & be a beautiful additon to the flock.

She might still grow up and be just fine! Don't loose faith just yet! The stretching her neck out thing and gaping just reminded me of what my chicks were doing and that's what made me think of the Newcastle. That whole description just fit my flock to the tee. I truly wish you all the best with your flock and this girl. If I find anymore info. then I will let you know. Please keep me posted as to how she is doing as well.

Thank you for all of your support when my chickens were going through their mess. I'm so glad that is all behind me now! Hang in there girl! This to shall pass.

Awe, shucks. Just wish I could have told you some information that was useful. I'm glad you're done with yours...hopefully mine will be over soon and no others affected. Could I be that lucky? Just got back from the barn pen; gave her about 4 syringes full of Tylan water. I can't find my reading glasses, so couldn't tell how many cc's it was, but the syringe is about the size of my pinkie. Hope it wasn't too much for her. It would sure be great to wake up & not hear any sneezing!

Keep those fingers & toes crossed...I'll post an update tomorrow.
