I don't know if this helps much, but growing up my family raised about 40+ Ameracaunas, and I recall at least two hens that would mimic the roosters for some reason! And I know for a fact these weren't just late-blooming roosters- they were laying eggs, haha! As many chickens as we have all had over the years, like I said, it was a rare thing I recall happening only twice. This is just my personal "story"![]()
I've been reading that it does happen, rarely. So this could definitely be the case with me.
We will see. Do you recall if your crowing birds looked like regular hens? Were there any other anomalies? My bird looks like a hen, but she is a barnyard mix, so it's hard to gauge it. My partner thinks she's about to lay any day now. 
Bet you can't wait for the OLIVE eggs!
Also, no eggs yet officially, but she's hardly behaving like a rooster now, with the squatting, the squatting in the nesting box, the egg song... I will be driving home at lunch to check.
