2009 is The Year of the Broodies....and ANOTHER One...(PICS)

The year of the broodies is right!!! I've had 11 broodies hatch out since April and 2 more are broody right now and I only have 9 hens total! (A couple of them did it twice already this year and it's still early. What am I going to do with all the chicks???)
I had a little serama pullet that laid maybe 8 eggs and then went broody on me. I only had 5 eggs that I was sure were hers and that's about all that would fit under her anyway so that's what she got and surprise, surprise, she hatched out all 5. They are sooooo cute.

Sounds like a broody circus at your place

You got that right, I can't walk off the porch or on it for that matter without a broody thinking I'm looking at her nest! Then there is that "Broody Screech" that tells the world another hen has dared to walk past or looked at someone else's nest! I'm starting to think a lot of chicken soup this winter..........

Update! There are now two adorable white silkie chicks under Priscilla, two more pipped under Pheobe, and 3 pipped under Holly, the new mother!

Only 2 have not pipped, but I have a feeling they will all be hatched by morning!

You should have a bunch of little fuzz-butts this morning! Dusty is happy as she can be with her new kids, but I hope she stays that way longer than she did last time. Shadow, my banty Cochin, is still with her BR chick at seven weeks old.

You were right speckledhen! All but one silkie egg has hatched this morning! The last egg is pipped, but this was also the egg I snuck under a day later than the others so I'm expecting it to be late. Will get some pics up ASAP!

Here they are!

These are just two of the Silkie chicks. I chose them because they have the better foot feathering.

And these are the mixed breeds that hatched under Holly, who is doing a great job for a first time mother!

You can see where her feathers had been plucked. No harm done, just missing feathers.

This chick is all black some white on its bum. This is the first, and only, chick that is fathered by my Sebright rooster. 4 toes + rose comb + pink skin = Sebright cross

I am thinking the mother is my Black Australorp since it hatched out of a large brown egg.

Don't ask me how he did it cuz I'm not sure

This chick is a SilkiexRIR cross and is just adorable! I'm really hoping it's a she. She looks like a she

And the last two hatched from green eggs. Both have the same parents, my EE hen and Silkie roo, yet they're different colors!

I am hoping to keep the mixes and maybe 1 of the silkie chicks depending if they are hens or not. I hope they are

I am so jealous! I was hoping for a broody. Unfortunately, my last silkie is a boy

I was really hoping to be able to let the hens hatch the babies next year.
