I've accomplished my goal today. I got all my practice block fabric cut.
Went to walmart, was looking at rotary cutters. THe only one there was Fiskars brand. I know they are a decent brand, but what about the cutter, is it any good?

Skand they are a good cutter. Just don't cut yourself. You can get these little sand paper stickers that you stick to your clear ruler. That helps the ruler from not slipping and can save your fingers and all kinds of body parts. You can also get a handle that you can attach to those rulers and that helps to stop a crooked cut.

Happy cutting. If ya like that skull fabric I will make your block and send ya the left over. I got 1/2 yard of each if you like the hankie squares for doo rags you should have enough to make yourself some. Do you want to make a doo rag for Jim or do you want me too. That skull material has a knife in the mouth he should like that.

Thank you for the advice. I've already cut my practice fabric with scissors, sewed my first three pieces, so far, so good. If I did it wrong, it doesnt look noticable yet. lol How bout those little rubber fingertips that people use to count money and papers with? would those also help protect fingertips?
I love that fabric! It's way cool, havent seen any like that here. You can do his 'rag, I'm not that confident yet!

Well don't place too much confidence in me doing his rag (some how this just doesn't sound right LOL). I haven't done one before and bought one today to make a pattern so I will practice on fabric I don't care about and then make his out of the skull fabric. If it works it works if it doesn't well I'll just fake it LOL. I will send that extra fabric to ya, I think you could do something with it maybe even make yourself some more blocks, I think I will do the 9 patch for ya as that will show it off. The bottom fabric is just crossed bones and hearts but it is pink and cute. I couldn't leave it there when I found it, had to grab it for ya LOL.

That rotary blade will chop that rubber finger right off, with your finger to boot.

don't forget to get the cutting mat as well, you can't just use the rotary blade on the table or anything like that.

YEAH! You have definately 'composed' the block! the colors look very nice together, and the general shapes are clear. I like how each little chickie in each corner is doing something different! Nice!! Origami huh?

Fabric.com and some other fabric sites too have a 'design wall' you can place swatches of fabric next to each other to see how they look. It doesn't do fancy shapes, but you can get ideas about colors, shades, scale of print, and contrast etc. You can use it without buying anything, and even if it doesn't have your exact fabric, it get's that part of your brain working.
