2009 Quilt block of the month - February

Thanks for the nice words. I get my old jeans from people at church. We go to a Cowboy Church so what better place to get old jeans than a bunch of (real) cowboys (notice I didn't old cowboys

). Some one posted on here how to do the rag quilts. They are very easy to make. Plus the front and back are done at the same time. When you make one they make a big mess in the washer. So you may want to go to the laundry place if you have one close.

Yes, you can use old jeans. That's what I used for my denim throw that redhen purchased from me.

I also find that if you have a clothing closet at a church nearby, you can get a bunch of jeans for free. Also, if you can find denim jumpers, you can get alot of squares out of them.

I posted the how to in the thread BYC Quilt Club...... sara showed how to pics on post #105 and I showed how to pics on post #160. I sure hope they help you all that would now like to make one. Here's the link to the thread.....

The smaller your pieces are the more seams you have and the heavier you demin quilt will be. Made my frist denim quilt as a memory quilt for youngest DS. He went to the same school from preK to 4th grade. When we moved I ask his teachers for one pair of old jeans each. With in a few weeks I had parents sending bags of jeans to school for us. Guess no one know what to do with those old jeans. It seems if you ask people for them they are slow at frist getting them to you but if you ask a few more times you will have more old jeans than you know what to do with.

PS if you come to my house you can have a raffle ticket for the one I'm going to make for Relay for Life

You can take the top of the pants, and then add some material to the bottom, viola! a skirt!!!

I have done this and they are the cutest little skirts. Your wee ones can have a variety of skirts, and what makes it better is that they can pick out the fabric that they like.

I made a quilt for my son to take to college out of all different colors of jeans. I put 4 or 5 squares the were the pockets from the jeans. I put both back pockets and front pockets. he loved it as he can put his cell phone in the one pocket up at the top when he goes to bed. He also hides some cash in them now and then.
I didn't put any batting but made the back out of heavy flanel and then just tied it because it was to heavy to quilt.
I just made 8 inch squares all over. Nothing fancy but all his friends want one.

This is destiny for me....

I had 3 large bags of used clothing including some of my old jeans in the car for the dump. I kept fogetting to drop them off...So glad I didn't - I'm going to be rummaging thru them again and use those jeans for my rag quilt.
