Oh, Jean, that block is beautiful. You know how much I love those colors and I have a place for it already. Can't wait to get it!

Thank you so much!

Hi everyone!

I think I need to follow the directions with this one.

I thought I could wing it by using templates I made from what I gathered from the directions.....I came out with a cute smaller version of that block! I can use it in a table runner I'm planning on.

It's cloudy here today, so guess what I'm doing this afternoon? Yep, I'm going to follow the directions....

..Leepsy..received my block yesterday..and as usual..it is even better in "person"..it is really a nice block!!.. (I am sending you instructions and sample on the mini dresden..as soon as I get to the P.O.)

Luna, I am sure finding that I have to make scant seams on the themed blocks..my first ones all came out too small..now I know to make them really scant..I think it has to do with my scanner..sigh..which is not working at all right now..sigh sigh...

See, NanaKat and CRC, I said from the beginning it was a "nice" block.

Thanks so much, CRC, for the instructions. I really appreciate that. And I'm glad you liked the block. I think eventually I will make a whole quilt with that pattern.

I know I'm the newbie here, but have you guys ever done or considered doing a swap that is all one block and makes a full quilt all at once?

For example, say we picked this block pattern we've just done, and everybody made 12 of that block all identical. You could have maybe a 2 or 3 month deadline to get all 12 of your blocks done. Then we have 12 people sign up and everybody keeps one block and mails the other 11 out, and everybody gets 11 different colored blocks in the mail... then you have a whole quilt!

It goes quicker since you're each buying fabric and making the same block 12 times but in the end you get 12 different blocks (well same block in different colors)....you could even assign colors to each person so the blocks will go together with a scrappy look but not clash....And of course we would each end up with an identical quilt (depending on how we choose to assemble the blocks).

Maybe you already have a swap like this, just an idea. If not, would there be any interest in something like that?
It would be fun to do it over the winter when everybody's stuck inside anyway and we could all end up with a quilt

I believe that is the notion behind the "themed" block of the month Bananas..unless you are talking about a designated set of blocks that actually make a quilt top, if so, Debbie Mumm has one on her website that is awesome for just that purpose, do one of the 12 blocks a month to make the finished product..like a "sew a Long" rather than a swap....feel free to jump in and head one up, we threw Welman into that baptismal fire the same way with the holiday blocks and she has done an awesome job..her "newbieness" wore off right away, haha!!! Might think about it being so close to Christmas though and if I could impose a suggestion I would say start it in January and run it all year doubling up a couple months to get it done before next christmas and you are likely to have a good bit of participation...check the Debbie Mumm one and see if it interests you, I suggest it for it's popularity and becasue being a rookie myself I think I could actually make most of the blocks, lol! Good luck!! If you just mean a 12 or 20 person swap, we routinely do those twice a year..check the BYCville swap (do a search for bycville swap and should come up) thread.

Ooh, the BYC ville swap looks like a lot of fun! Yes, that's along the lines of what I'm talking about

I think the difference is I am talking about doing it all at once. It's pretty easy in a couple hours to make 12 identical blocks all at once, then you just mail your 11 duplicates out to 11 people.

And good point about doing it in January after Christmas!

I think I would wait awhile before trying to organize anything myself, wow, sounds like a tough job! Lol

Hopefully there will be another swap like the BYCville one soon!
