Good morning all, I would love to come. I just attended the POOPS event in Oklahoma it is a huge deal with everyone chipping in even husbands and wives that don't support chicken addicts. The best thing about theirs is the 2 auctions and the raffle. The other nice thing is that they have a guy that is a chicken trader and he brings trailer loads of birds and supplies he will also buy just about any bird that doesn't peak any interest ( mostly roosters). I love the fact that you may come home with something you never expected that is how we have gotten most of our different breeds. Having the event at a public place where there are cabins for rent and in my case camp sites is a huge plus because you don't have to worry about driving home same day and the cost of camping is low so you have more cash to spend in chickens. I am an honorary Okie because I sometimes attend auctions there and my brother lives there, I should say we were both born and raised in south texas. If anyone is up to it you should look at the okies thread and see how involved everyone is talking about the daily grind it helps to get folks talking. Go back in the posts to about the 26 or 27 of april and you can see just how much goes into an event that huge, and its all because of team work. So lets all get together and make some new friends and share stories and maybe some birds.
 
My daughter and I would like to come. I'm a newbie on this website and will be a newbie when my chicks get here next month so I'd love to meet everyone and learn from the pros.

I love what POOPS did, and we will also need to do a lot of advance planning to pull off something like it. Maybe we could have an event in connection with the local 4H poultry club to draw in more for raffles or whatever.

Also, Texas has very strict laws regarding selling/swapping/auctioning of birds... Any birds brought to sell or swap would have to be PT or NPIP certified, and it would not surprise me if the TAHC shows up to verify certification.

Since our social Chickenstock is just a few weeks away, let's enjoy everyone's company, eat and swap bird stories, etc, and start another thread if we want to plan something more elaborate for the fall or next year.

sounds good to me! we had so much fun with the Fancy Feathers show!

what can we bring for food? some sort of side maybe, how about corn pudding?

That sounds great. If anyone is not NPIP certified and need some info on it PM me and I'll get you what you need. This is something anyone who sells eggs, chickens, turkeys, pea fowl, and gamebirds is required by law to do. The good news is its free and all you have to do is request someone come out and do the test. The bad news is they only have a few guys doing it in the state. If you have trouble getting someone out in a reasonable time frame let me know I know whos cage to rattle.
