They are coming up. I really don't care/follow most of the sports but for whatever reason whenever the Olympics comes on every four years I'm drawn to it. In the 2010 winter games the Americans fought the Canadians for the hockey gold medal. 2-1, Americans down, they pulled their goalie and scored to tie it up and send it into sudden death. I wasn't even a hockey fan but I was on the edge of my seat. Unfortunately they lost. It's been one of the most exciting sports events I have seen in years. Anyone else a fan of the Olympics?

From what I hear from folks back home, most locals other than voyeurs of young people in shorts will be glad when it's over. I'm told that London cab fares, too high in any case, will double. Hotels will increase their rates and most places such as the underground and buses will be more crowded than ever.

It will affect other areas too. Box Hill in Surrey is a favourite recreation area for people who live there and for miles around. Public rights of way will be closed during the cycling events and visitors will be charged fees to enter what is a public space.

All this is in an attempt to recover some of the enormous and self-indulgent outlay that has been extracted from British taxpayers who will be elbowed or priced out for the duration. There are also stories about illegally sold tickets that were sent to agents in certain countries for sale in those countreis that have reached the tickets starved British public.

A damnation on the corrupt, money grabbing Olympic Committee that travels the world living high on the hog on the backs of committed and mainly unpaid athletes.

I am a fan, too.....Only the best recieve an award. The riff raff have to go home and try harder next time. There's no redistribution of talent or prizes, to make it fair.

I am not usually a sports fan either, but love the Olympics too. I prefer the winter though (us Canadians do a lot better at those games lol).

That hockey game was amazing in 2010! There were big hockey parties everywhere up here to watch the game. All of Canada was on the edge of their seats LOL It was so exciting, especially for us Canadians in the end ;)

The only Olympus I would watch are the horses. I am not a sports fan either!

I used to watch ice skating but not anymore since Ekaterina lost her hubby.
