2014 breeding season begins, post your results

Congrats! I got an egg today (a good egg) but it was under the roost so I am sure whoever laid it is not planning on hatching that egg. I have been watching my peahens checking out different nesting areas like under the nest boxes, under bushes, etc.

I gave our preacher 2 peafowl eggs today to eat.

We got #'s 2 & 3 on the 19th, another hen has started laying. Nothing last night. All have been nice big eggs so far.

Congrats on your eggs and their size, mine are small, lol.

Is she a young hen? I am sitting here on my laptop and there are Barney Eggs behind me in the hatcher and they are chirping rather loudly.

Hoping I will have chicks by this time tomorrow.

No, she's a coming 5 year old, average size, just lays eggs 100 grams or less, smallest last year was 86, I think. Another 5 year old lays big ones, some of hers were 125 grams, lol.

Congrats on chick, post pictures? That reminds me... need to go check on the Muscovy hen, she had some pipping yesterday.

My Cameo bs hen has always laid the smallest eggs of all my hens, but she is reliably broody every year and hatches the heck out of those smaller eggs. As for the chicks, I don't have any yet, I have loudly chirping pipped eggs, soon as they are out (

) I'll take some pics. Good luck with the scovy's.

OMG! I went to check on the ducklings and she had rolled two out of her nest, one external pip, one internal, both ice cold, no movement from either. Well, I decided to give them a chance, so I fired up the incubator, warmed them up and was just about to do an eggtopsy when I saw the beak of on open! Look like both are alive!

Good!

I have mixed feelings, 'cause I started peeling the shell and both probably needed more time, so if they live, they will more than likely need special attention, which means more work for me. :(

Looks like my best producing peahen might lay an egg tonight.
