2014 breeding season begins, post your results

My first small batch went in April 13,,next batch April 20th. You have2 keep track. Gives you several weeks to shop for wine sales.
Our first fertile eggs are hatching this weekend. They are in the incubator in Pensacola and I am at the farm in Westville so I know my wife and daughter will be all over them. I'll get an update every four hours or so. Cannot keep her out of the incubator for the peafowl hatch.

Setting once a week is definitely the best way to go.

I couldn't resist, lol, just candled both eggs and it looks like #1 is fertile, but not sure about #2, it just looks kind of wrong. Two more days and I'll know for sure. Has anyone seen the new candler from R-Com, it looks pretty fancy!

Well 2 of my hens started laying last week and a white hen has been walking the walk off & on for about 4 days now. The 2 that started are really irregular, sometimes it is 4 days between eggs from them, really strange. We are still having very cool weather, 35ish overnight and daytime highs in the upper 50's to low 60's, wondering if the cold weather could be causing the sporadic laying.

I really worry about egg binding, so if I see mine doing the walk and not producing an egg, I check her. Doesn't take much, just catch, lol, put on glove with lube and insert finger. If there is an egg you'll feel it no more than 1" in. If it's shelled and there for more than 24 hours I'll give them liquid calcium and E about 2 hours before they're due to lay.

You more experienced types probably think I'm nuts, lol. Not suggesting that you guys do this, it's just what helps me sleep better. :D
