We did have our first sucessful 2014 hatchlings today. One is a Dark red Throated ornamental pheasant and the next one looks to be a Yellow Golden. Closest peachicks to hatch will be around May 17th here.

These are my first 2 peachicks from this season. I started out with 15 eggs, one day i checked the pen and only saw 7!!!!! looked around and found no shells or yolks or embryos or any clue but found nothing. three days ago I only saw 5 of those eggs and one hatched three days ago, yesterday another egg hatched and today...... no more eggs!! I can't find an explanation to my eggs dissapearing. It sucks cause they were so close to hatching :C
Anyway, here are my first two chicks (IB mom, white dad)
I've never sexed peachicks, until its obvious what they are when they are around 1. when and how can I tell what I got?
I've got three or four BS bronze chicks already! I could be convinced to trade. We did have our first sucessful 2014 hatchlings today. One is a Dark red Throated ornamental pheasant and the next one looks to be a Yellow Golden. Closest peachicks to hatch will be around May 17th here.
Congratulations on your chicks.![]()
Alex, Zaz has some really nice pictures showing the difference between the males and female peachicks that I always like to refer to.
Well, I finally got some chicks. Got off to a bit of a rough start this year. My first 3 good ones quit at about 3 weeks. It was my fault. I had been turning the eggs and dropped the lid to the incubator. I made what I thought was an awesome mid-air ninja catch and saved it. I didn't notice I had turned the dial on it. When I went to turn the eggs that night the temp was at 95. No telling how long it had been that low. They felt warm though so I thought they were okay. One of my eggs that pipped died. It looked like after it pipped it turned around without zipping somehow and cut off it's air supply.![]()
So far I have my bigger incubator full of eggs, like 50 of them. Thankfully this one doesn't have a dial I can accidentally move. I'm using the smaller one as the hatcher now. I'll have to order a new incubator this payday since this one is out of room. I'm going to let my ladies keep laying for another 2 weeks or so then let them sit on the rest I think. All the chicks I will hatch this summer already have homes waiting for them. I didn't have as many cancellations as I was expecting so I'll have to hatch a bit more than I was planning on.![]()
Shhhhh...nap time.
In order from oldest to youngest. They were not happy I woke them up for pictures.
