2014 breeding season begins, post your results

My hens had very difficult times passing the soft shelled eggs they suffered partial paralysis of the legs and I wasn't sure they would make it, but they did. I understand Birdrain's hen was the same way, unable to walk for awhile. Were your's like this too, perhaps there are varying degrees of severity? I've experienced this 3 times over the past 20 years, so it doesn't happen that often, but each time I know they quit laying for at least a month or longer. I have Calcium Gluconate liquid on hand now and if it happens again that is the first thing they will get.
No, mine looks fine, both hens are doing well, the peach hen only lays one egg last week and another one this week, i hope the opal sp hen lays again this season i only got 1 fertile egg from their pen so far

I just gave Jadea a dose of Neosporin and petted her for a few minutes and then all of a sudden she just starts moving like nothing even happened. I'm hoping I will get some eggs during early or mid June that way my friend who will be looking after our place doesn't have to worry about eggs hatching while my family is in SD. Fingers crossed for more eggs and chicks hatching for everybody this year.

Minxfox, I got two chicks from your first batch of eggs. A white and what appears to be plain IB or IB split white.
That is great! I didn't think you would get a white so now I am wondering who the father was...I doubt it was Alto so it could be Peep or Frosty. Congrats do you have any photos of all the chicks you are hatching?

When did black shoulder chicks usually start to get their color? i have started to think they are whites

How old are they? It's been a couple of years since I raised any BS chicks, but I think around a week or 2 you start to see the tan looking wing feathers come in.

2 are two weeks old and one is 10 days old, last year i noticed their tan wing at two weeks old, maybe all of them are hens? i hope so.

I hope not LOL, they all came from my bronze bs pen.

Whites from that pen would be a shock! I just got my bronze bs hen last September and I just had 5 bronze and bronze bs eggs shipped to me, so I am working on hatching a male to go with her. At this point I am not familiar with the early coloring in bronze bs chicks, perhaps they don't get those tan wing feathers as early or noticeably as the IB bs. ????
