Just moved eggs from incubator to the hatcher. Finally this one looks to be numbers wise where it should be.Only had 2 clears out of all the IB eggs. Zaz if you consider taking the white Thangette wild-child we should reach Zaz#6 with this hatch.Tomorrow looks to be a great Merlot hatch-a-long here. Anyone else Celebrating life this weekend?

Yes, Sunday should be my big day, finally. My first two eggs were to hatch last Monday but they turned out to be quitters sometime around three weeks. This round I had 20% clear and the rest look pretty good so far. BTW, I haven't forgotten your bottle of mead, we have been waiting for the carboy to clear up a bit more before we bottle it.

Yep this is the kind I buy:

I put 3 cc in 1 gallon of drinking water for 3 days then wait 10 days and do the same thing again. Each day you empty the water and put fresh medicated water in there. I mix the medicine in with the water in a big jug in the kitchen. I shake it up until it is cloudy and then go to the pen and pour it in a water container.

I understood that the Safeguard would settle to the bottom of the water container so I use the inverted gravity waterer so it settles to the ring they drink from. My peas don't drink much water but they REALLY don't like the medicated water at all.

Quote: I'm not picking on you, really, I'm not, it's just your post brings up a good point. So how much do peafowl drink in a day? Does anyone know the answer to that? And where did this 3 cc in a gallon originate? One gallon of water with 300mg of fenbendazole (Safeguard) doesn't seem like it will do an effective job of worming. If a large, full grown male drank 1 quart he'd get 75mg, which is 12.5mg/kg. If he drank only 8 ounces in a day that would be 3.124mg/kg, which is probably not enough.

This is why i put safeguard in scrambled eggs and oatmeal, all my peas love this and i know for sure they get worm meds this way, with water mixture mine may never get any as they free range and tend to drink from the ponds, peas do not drink water like chickens especial the hens, cause when a hen lays eggs all the time they will drink much more water

I don't feel picked on, yet, it is an important discussion to have. To your first point I find that my peas just do not drink much water at all especially during the colder months. And to the second, when you more experienced peakeepers say 'This is what I do and this is what works' we newbees tend to take it as gospel and follow suit.

To a point that Birdbrain made concerns me also, when we turn out our peas to free range how are we to catch them again to administer meds? I only have one pea out but I can not for the life of me figure how I am going to get meds in him. The only option I have heard so far is from Zaz and putting it in the food, but then the other birds are helping him eat his portion.

Quote: If you can, lure him into a pen, shed or garage with feed or treats and then catch him (have a helper, and use a blanket or net if you have to). One person can restrain the bird, while the other person doses him orally. That way you know you are getting the correct amount of wormer in the bird. Don't forget you'll need to follow up with another dose in 10 days.

My peas are not free ranged and I can separate them from the guineas and I have a lb of safe guard. The peas weight about the same. The safe guardi 0.5% I have let thei food run way down can I dump the entire sack in their feeder without giving too much?

If this is a daily wormer then i would not give them an entire pound, what does the container say?
