2014 New York Chickenstock

omg- I didn't realize people were giving their chicks away? I thought the original post said to bring stuff to sell? I will definitely be bringing donations for the auction & potluck as well... but I was under the impression this was a buy/sell/trade chicken lovers picnic!

Kidding....see the laughing guy next to that statement? AND I did ask for the price in the very next breath. Of course I will pay for the chicks....this picnic is whatever people want to make of it and this thread is so people can arrange their sales, trades and swaps in advance so no one has to take things home with them that they brought. And, of course, to tell us what yummy thing you are going to bring to eat. (I am taking the easy way out and bringing chips and brownies....both store bought....I am usually so tired by end of week I can barely drive safely, much less bake something. Darn that CLL)

And I can't believe Rancher wants NN. He says silkies are aliens....I think NN are from a different galaxy. Maybe even a different universe or demension.

I'm doing some trading for chicks and bringing a few things some horse people may like - it is nice to touch and think about the stuff - and I have a truck - so I don't care if I go home with anything that didn't strike someone's fancy.

I am also bringing small plum trees for sale. ( I do think I will only have enough to satisfy people who have already asked for them - spring will tell)

It is like a real festival of like minds !!!

Some people are giving some away by choice for the raffle (Chinese auction). We will have a section for people to set up booths to sell things separate from the Chinese auction

We are having both this year.

Be aware this could become an annual event at your place since 1. you have the space and B. you're somewhere in the middle of the state, though not quite Syracuse of course and III. you're so amiable to doing it and 4. We like you both.

Now be sure to have a rocking chair for those who might like to rock that baby. If I had known grandchildren were so much fun, I'd of had them first.

lol-
I took your emoticon as "You schmuck- everyone is giving their chicks away!" Obviously, I'm extremely gullible!! I was thinking $4/hatching egg, $5/straight run chick..... Does this sound reasonable? PM me if you'd like me to bring some for you.

I still have to figure out what I will bring to eat...

$5 a chick seems ok, but if you mean $4 for one egg that is $48 a dozen and that seems a little high, given there is no garentee that they will hatch. But I never buy hatching eggs, so I am not the one to say on that pricing.

Thats really not bad for eggs from quality birds. I'm planning on getting some blue barnie eggs in the spring, they're $75 a dozen.

Well can't it be both.  If folks want to donate for the auction AND bring stuff to trade or sell?    I don't have any NN's and I wouldn't mind a couple.

I plan to do both. Hopefully I'll have barnies and some of the first cross blue mottled cochins, maybe some silkies, we'll see. If the ducks get to laying in time I'll bring some runners too.

Thanks for speaking up. Like I said, I didn't know what hatching eggs go for. And now that I know, I think I'll stick with buying chicks. At least I know they hatched. LOL

Now that I think about it, $48 a dozen isn't bad, actually....if 75% hatch that makes them about $5 a chick. But if only 50% hatch, that's getting to rich for my blood. I learned my lesson when I was new....no matter how good the breed, breeder or how much I just have to have "that breed" they ALL can die and the more you want it, the more likely it is to die. And if they live they won't necessarily lay the egg you think it is going to lay. My best layers are my mutts. My most colorful layers are my mutts. My most friendly are my mutts. So I guess I like my mutts....and I hatched them myself so the cost me nothing. (Actually the hen hatched them, I just fed the little fuzzy butts)
