2014 Stockton CA pre-sale

So after raising backyard chickens for four years I am taking my addiction to a new level. I am new to all of the presale and show world activities. Can someone give me a quick run down of how it works please? I have some sweet birds to sell/trade and can post pictures later today. I ventured into Silkies recently and four out of five are boys! I am really looking forward to meeting people who enjoy this also and have the knowledge I lack.

Thanks in advance.

Pre-selling means you basically sell your bird(s) in advance and bring them to the show for the buyer to pick-up.

If you do not find buyers in advance, you can also reserve a sale cage and sell your bird(s) that way. I have never bought or sold any birds this way but lots of people do.

Not sure what the sale cages cost but you can contact Anthony Rose for more info on that.

We've never been to any of these shows, but we're considering possibly going. Just curious...If you (say) have birds to bring to the show, is there prep work to do besides cleaning your birds?

I think I saw something that talked about blood tests on the show site. What are the blood tests for? Are they for showbirds to confirm their lines, or to test for sicknesses like Marek's? Do birds in the cage for reselling require blood tests too? Does this require a seller's permit? And where would you have these done if you needed them? And how would you know how to price your birds, or know if a bird you purchased was a good price? Just curiosity to how this works...

I've never shown at Stockton, but when I was researching for our State fair, I found out that some shows require blood tests to be taken for (I believe) common diseases. I think it's the NPIP who takes them.

Here is a good link to learn about what it takes to show.

I will be at the show and have the following ducks available for pre-sale.

2 pairs Saxony Ducks
1 pair Dutch Hookbill Ducks (white drake/dusky hen)
1 pair Penciled Indian Runner Ducks

Anyone have peacocks or fertile eggs for sale that they would be willing to take to Stockton?

I am looking for some of various colors.
Thanks,

I took some photos of some of the birds I have available. I also have eggs available.

Mille Fleur Leghorn Quad (3 hens/1 rooster)
The rooster had the best type of all the MFL roosters I raised, but he has limited coloring. I kept him for his type over color. Sorry, I neglected to get a side shot. I can take more photos.

The MFL is a project and has a long way to go before getting the type right. I choose my birds based on type rather than spangles. This girl has the best type I have seen in a MFL project, but she has limited MF patterning.

This bird and the bird below has more MFL patterning, but poorer type. Seems like you get one of the other at this stage of the project.

Citron Leghorn Pair (1 rooster/ 1 hen?
This pair hatched from my Mille Fleur Leghorn project. They occasionally hatch really light like this. I had considered working on a Citron Project, but then came to my senses. I need another project like I need a hole in my head. I am not sure if the genetics for Citron exist in the MFL leghorn project. You would need to do your research if you want to pursue this project. This guy is great eye candy if you just want a nice roo for your backyard flock.

Basque Pullets (Pet Quality only) White legs, MF pattern (not-desired)
Yep these girls are not breed quality but they will make beautiful backyard pets. I have three pet Quality Basque Pullets available. They hatched 10/4/13 so they are just over 3 months old

Orps Cockerels hatched 10/4/13
I have 25+ Orpington Cockerels to choose from. Black, Splash and Lavender

Double Laced Blue Barnevelder Rooster (hatched 10/4/13

Brabanter Rooster (hatched from eggs from Miss Molly)

Orange Barred Laced Polish Roosters. I have two boys available.
OBL is not an approved variety. See my website for more info
