2015 August hatch-a-long!!

Couldn't resist taking a photo after putting the week older chicks over with them, they just settled down right with them. The glass has the baby that is taking it's time waking up because I assisted..it was pipped all day at the wrong end, making no progress. Absorbed everything, just have to wait and see how well it is doing by morning..hopefully awake.

They're beautiful. Great to hear they're all adjusting nicely with one another. I'll pray for the "oopsie ended" one.

God bless.

Well, all 9 of my babies hatched that went into lock down. Only one assist. The one that pipped at the wrong end. Looking like she will make it, just needs to wake up. Not very dark red for RIR's. Sure are hardy though. :) Will post photos tomorrow..hopefully the sleepy one will be awake enough for a photo shoot. :)

That's awesome!!!

After my broody sadly failed to hatch a surrogate egg from her flockmates, 4/4 serama chicks hatched from my incubator which is absolutely amazing! All babies are almost 2 days old & craaaave attention!

So cute! I love Seramas, I had a few I let free range this week and I couldn't find where they were laying eggs. One disappeared yesterday and then showed up today so I followed her and found her very camouflaged nest in some grasses. I can hardly believe she went broody that fast!

Seramas are such dolls haha! My white hen went missing & I looked around the yard for at least an hour (I own 4 acres next to a small patch of woods, and a huge coop under my deck) & I ended up finding her inside an overturned umbrella broody!

Honestly I think chickens are my favorite pet they never get boring!

No creams, all RIR's except for the Lavender Orpington in the middle, and the RSL up against the side. I had a question about the markings on the eggs shells..asked today, he finally responded. Said it was RI..for Rhode Island Red, and that his son did the markings, chuckling at his hand writing. Says he needs to make sure he explains the markings from now on. Yep. :D Sure looked like RS to me.
I'll get better pictures tomorrow.

I don't undderstand why y'all are olening the eggs. Didyou start them late last month?
of coure i didn't even candle mine this month, aand concerned the humidity too high too early. I was reading n pro had written to leave cmpletely untouched day 11 to 14 so I unplugged the vent holes, huminty is 50+ temp is noe where it shoukd be again bator was running about 95 steady overnight n then 100 in the daytime.
1/2 are Austrolorpe, off the net, others are from the yard may be Silky cross, RIR those were roosters, hens comet, RIR and a Cochin mutt?
Well half way "done" so time will tell. I did set 2 a couple days later then the rest, they are supposed to still be in turner when rest are in lockdown.
just sharing to help ease my mind. Swet dreams All.

Yes, set these last month, and now, I have more that are due tomorrow or the next day..and, I have some due in about a week and a half. :D

Ok, this is just me, well, and a lot of others, used to do the 50 for incubation .. that was old school..everyone did this, but most of us have found out that is too high. For chicks. I keep mine around 25 to 30 during incubation. Some even go completely dry for incubation.
Then for lock down at 60.. 62. If ducks, or geese, it's different.

That is a creative spot!
One of the other hens I let out was throwing herself at the front screen door today till I let her in. She found a nice corner in the laundry room to lay her egg.
