2015 breeding season

Instead of throwing them all away I brokedown tonight and put about 29 eggs into the egg baker. I'm not looking for much better than 25% on this first group but darn,I had 2 Taupe eggs and it would have been hard cracking them open and seeing they was fertile. Would be a great birthday present May 30th to myself if one,or both of them hatched.

It's worth a shot, if they are clear you can still boil them and feed back after a week. I didn't have that great of luck with my first 13, I candled out three after a week, two more after two weeks and then had seven late quitters giving me one that hatched. So that is one more than I would of had.

There aren't a lot of Javanese green peachick photos out there so that would be great for the peachick chart!

Today is the first day of lockdown. I had to add a lot of extra water and the temp went down quite a bit, but it is slowly going back up. Hopefully the peachick will be okay but I figured this late in development shouldn't hurt it. It got down to maybe 95 deg F so I figure that isn't too bad.

Anyone keep peachicks or any other kind of bird chick in the bathtub? We have a bathtub no one really uses and I figured if I put old towels down in the bathtub the peachick would be okay in there just for a week or so until I move it outside?

I don't even know if it will hatch, but I just want to know. I did have that amazing baby crib for peachicks but Aaron's parents threw it away when he was borrowing it for a peachick. Now I am much more strict about letting people, especially him, borrow my things.

I always brood in my bathtub for the first couple weeks, but they are in plastic totes, so I can cover them with screens, because I've had them fly up out at 4 days old.

Hmm ours is enclosed except for a metal rod that is maybe 6ft. high with a shower curtain. Do you think one would still fly out of that? I could maybe put a sheet over the curtain rod to prevent any flying out. I guess I will just have to test it and see.

I have a heat lamp I always use but it doesn't have a cage around it. I have never had an issue with a peachick getting burned on it.

Do you use a heat bulb or just a regular light bulb? I know my red heat bulb will burn you if you get against it, and the chicks would never be able to stand that close to it, I have to have it about 30" above the brooder tub to get it 95 degrees inside.

I use a regular light bulb I forgot what wattage I normally use. I always forget that everyone uses the heat bulbs.
