Theres over a foot of snow on the ground here and its been well below freezing, I set 14 eggs figuring that some would be duds. ~1/2 didn't start to develop. I need to candle again to see how many are set to hatch on Saturday. Shes sitting on a mix of Pakistani Asil eggs.

I set 14 eggs under her also, ~1/2 started developing same as the above hen. She is sitting on Pakistani Asil eggs too. Set to hatch net week sometime. Hopefully I will have chick pics to share soon.

Her sisters must have liked her broody box also. I didn't realize they were laying in there until I went out to take this picture a few minutes ago.

5 broody silkies in 4 nesting boxes, sitting on a combo of d'uccle, silkie and malay eggs

first set of eggs to hatch in the next few days, but man do they feel light! i think i will spray under the hen with a water bottle.

Can you please explain why you'd spray under her with a water bottle. I've never heard of this before. Is it to help with humidity?

yes, just like you boost humidity in the incubator-especially if your eggs air pockets are too large. if they are too dry i will probably have to help them all out. part of the issue is the 5 hens keep rotating nests, so the experienced hens are not always taking care of the same eggs. what i can do instead is spray momma and have her help distribute the moisture.

Here's my broody cochin. She started sitting on eggs around Groundhogs Day. I believe there were 20. I'm not sure it she will be successful as it is so cold here and supposed to get down to -17 tonight. She's pretty persistent though so never know.

i cheated a bit and took the near hatching eggs and put them in the incubator and gave her some the others were sitting on. today though 2 hatched out on my birthday under the older hen on the bottom left, i had to take them away since the rest of her batch is not even pipped and i fear she may abandon the rest or another chicken will hurt them when she goes to eat.

Hi everyone
im new to this site and new to chicken and duck raising.

i have currently raised 17 chicken/roosters and 3 ducklings.

At the moment i have a broody hen and a duck who is laying eggs in the same nextnig box.
today i thought that i would take hem out because i thought that the eggs were no good as its ao cold out side and thought that the chicken/duck waant sitting on the eggs.
however iam very wrong and she has been sitting on them at night after all and after they are fertile.
so i quickly went back down there and put them all back.
do u think i have wrecked theis batch of eggs now because i took them out and then put them back under her?

All advice would be great
