Our very first hatch ever resulted in 5 healthy chicks (the 2 smaller off to the side I just bought yesterday). Our chicks are now just over 1 week old & we're collecting eggs to try again. We used a Little Giant 9300 with turner & got a 50% hatch rate...which is probably very good now that I've learned how much I did wrong! We had 1 hatch on day 19, 3 on day 20 & only 1 on day 21. So, even though we were using the incubator as a still air & had the thermostat set at 99.5 (now I know that still air should be warmer at the top of the egg) it must have been too hot. So, I've got a brinsea thermometer & forced air fan ordered that should be here any day. Also, I didn't know to turn the eggs while I was holding them pre-incubation, I washed some of them, touched them, didn't bring them up to normal room temperature before starting and I filled the thing up with water from the start, so sure the humidity was too high also (hygrometer is junk on the LG, too). I'm so grateful for all of the wisdom on this site & these forums and hoping for a better hatch rate next go round!
