2016 Gosling Hatch-a-long

Myself and another past person that used to be on Byc called Livinbrazil made a thread similar two years ago and it was about trying to create the Steinbacher goose by cross breeding.
She hasn't been online for a while and I sold my flock.
But I guess I can save for a pair of white Chinese?
We'll see! Once I get my Chinese I'll make the thread!

I would also love like.. a spotted goose. Like the snowy owl pattern but on a goose. I know there are lots of mixed breed spotted geese but it would be great to have an actual breed with purpose and breed standards. Maybe a better egg laying goose also! Who knows... I'll be on your thread Serv! Make it a cross breeding thread so I could play too one day!

I think that it would be hard to get a pure spotted geese.
I know that a brown male with a white female would give spotted males so if you further breed you'll never know.
But getting it as a snowy owl pattern would be beautiful but hard I'm guessing :/

400

I guess more spots it needs

Probably, but I think you would breed with Pomeranians and Embdens mostly? It would be fun to try wouldn't it!

Can't wait to see your buff Chinese! You could totally have a whole flock of them!

More spots but that is basically it. I'm a sucker for spots.

Muscovy crosses are always sterile but people cross them with other ducks for meat.
Did you ever taste Muscovy.
Are you kidding I look at that platter and say is that Opie? no I am just kidding I really don't think I could eat a Muscovy. Tried Turduckin years ago wasn't too impressed.

When I crossed my buff African with the white Chinese I only got buff females and the males were white with bits of buff here and there so I was wondering how to get buff males so then I crossed my giant Brown African gander with the buff Chinese and the goslings which were 3 goslings (all male) were the skinniest ganders I ever saw and all brown.
So imagine crossing a male buff African with the buff Chinese I will get skinny buff males so that's how you create buff Chinese males ;)
And then test the buff Chinese geese with eachother to see how it will turn out!

Can't eat Opie! Never eat your oldest or the main flock! Just eat the kids......... ( sounds terrible
