Spring is in the air and this thread is getting busy! I am getting off to a late start myself. I finally got my pens set up and separated my whites, but they found an escape hole and got free yesterday. So, I have to get them separated again and restart the 10 day clock before I can start gathering eggs. I guess it is for the best since I had not separated my buff pair yet. Will get everything done by the weekend, which means I can start collecting eggs for my bator by the 15th and set both white and buff at the same time. Hope to have babies hatching by the end of April.

Right now she is with 2 pairs of Brown Chinese I will probably put her in with the Toulouse tonight she hasn't laid an egg for almost 2 weeks so how long till eggs are fertile from Toulouse male?

You won't get blue males from brown and white Chinese so far I know instead you get pied geese (Brown and white). The question about how long till the eggs father is the toulouse I also have to find out. I do know that eggs can be still fertile up to 10 days after mating but if the toulouse does mate with her now straight away the toulouse should be the father

I put her in with the Toulouse last night and saw the male mount her today so will now have to wait for eggs.

My single egg is on day 29 and hatching. I can hear it now in the incubator making sweet sounds. I also picked up 4 more eggs today and these were just layed yesterday so I expect them to do better than the last batch. I love my little gosling already.

Carrosaur, I saw Ginger (buff in main breeding group) lay her 1st egg today (5 days early!). I never worry about separating that group in advance of laying since they do not mix with my other geese. However, they will also be penned up this weekend too, mostly to keep other girls from bullying Ginger off her nest as they have done in the past. It also makes life easier for me to keep track of laying patterns for accurate labeling and for gathering eggs. Of course, if you want eggs from the other two dewlap pairs then it will be another 2-3 weeks before I can get eggs from them. Sorry!

Hello everyone, I have been on BYC since last spring when I got my American Buffs and everyone here was a wealth of knowledge when I was getting started. I don't usually post anything but wanted to share that I found my Ana sitting on a nest of 11 eggs almost 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately she was across the pond in our residential neighborhood so we decided to try to move her and eggs home. Obviously she then wanted nothing to do with these eggs. So the following day I went to get an incubator. Less than 2 weeks and one of the eggs has an external pip which leads me to believe that while she was laying someone else probably a muscovy that also lives on the pond may have been setting on them when she was away. So excited though that I could have a new buff baby this weekend though!

Carrosaur you mentioned Wigeon yesterday and I researched the breed and it really looks like Eurasian wigeon eggs and ducks habitat etc. Suits where I live so I'm going for Wigeon but Ireland has a lot of wild ducks!
I shouldn't get my hopes up until I see if they are fertile or not
