2018 BYC Calendar - Your Pictures Needed!

Nifty-Chicken, obviously we would all like to have our photos chosen. Is there any advice/tips you can give to help us know what the judges are looking for. As an example, more natural less, composed. Or pics that show the seasons.
Also is editing photos before submission a good or bad choice?
Speaking as a former helper, high-quality is pretty much the only thing considered. Pleasing composition, contrast, good focus, etc. One thing that helps get high ratings is submitting eye-catching photos. First impact is really important. Look through other calendars and see the types of pics that are in there.

This goes for all photography and videos. Please please turn your phone sideways. It makes a better picture in most cases. (There are exceptions) It also puts your picture in the correct layout for stuff like the calender.
Better yet, ditch the phone because you're not getting in that way. ;)

It's possible to take a good picture with one of the latest phones. You need to be close, though, and have good lighting. Getting close to the chicken's level is good for any picture.

That said, my dslr wipes the floor with the cell phone cameras. As a bonus I can put on the telephoto lens and lay in the grass far enough away that the chickens don't see me and run over.

The two pictures I entered were taken with dslr. One was my old Cannon Rebel t2i. The other was my Cannon 80D.

:hmm Really? I take that back, then. I'm not familiar with phones other than what friends have told me, and they all said the cameras were awful.

I still find it hard to believe you can get clear focus with a phone cam.

One tip

Mine is junk, but I think an iPhone 8 might have a decent one.

Example from my S7. It's cropped to fit my lock screen. Isn't even a good picture really because I wasn't trying. I just wanted to show her to someone. I was holding her in one hand and snapped it with the other.
