2018 Hatchalong

Speaking of birds hatching out their own babies... our momma duck hatched a dozen babies yesterday. Today, she is already taking them all around pasture.

Momma is 1/2 ancona, 1/4 crested blue, 1/4 pekin. Father of babies is ancona. She is a very proud momma, and doing a great job keeping them together... and there are actually 13 babies (I missed one earlier)!

Definitely a lot of ducklings! Up to 25 total. Fortunately, no more ducklings expected in the near future, and luckily have requests for ducklings already.

She really is beautiful. I'd love to have that many but no room here. People in SE Arkansas do not keep ducks and I can give away chickens. So for now I have 18 ducks (Pekin, Runner, Blu Swiss and Magpie) , 4 geese
(2 Toulouse female and 2 Toulouse/African mix ganders) and many mixed chickens

I wish you luck with all your lings. And thank you for helping today

Congrats! They are adorable!! Toulouse geese are the best brooders and parents I've ever had.

Their beaks will slowly turn orange in a few weeks.

Thanks. She has been great. Not sure about the beak, the gander is Toulouse/African mix
Moms started changing about 3-4 weeks I think. So I don't have long to wait to see which breed it follows

I just realized I posted the picture of 2 goslings on wronge thread. One of those is the mom of the gosling just hatched. First of 4 ??? I hope
