2018 Newbie Chat!

I’ve been wondering if he’s the type of rooster that bonds to one female.
My friend insists that he became depressed after the little hen he had at her house died.
He wasn’t interested in any of the other bantam girls.
They were all with Hector except a D’uccle that’s with her little Japanese rooster.
He’s preferred to be in the coop with Pip although he will come down into the run on a regular basis but he doesn’t show interest in the other girls.
He did tidbit for Pippin a little bit today.
That certainly makes a lot of sense, if he is a one hen rooster then losing his partner would be devastating, no wonder he got in the state he's in. - Sounds like him having Pippin is helping loads.

So, hawk strike here. I guess the crows have left.

Roo is injured but alive, did a clean, antibacterial ointment and vetrycin spray, and vetrapped his wing, which he was dragging. Have him in a dog crate in the garage with nutridrenched water and food, and will check him in the morning.

Spent the day building a new run, which will hopefully keep the hawks off. Ugh. Poor roo, he is one of my younger ones and is really laid back.

Ohhh this is awful, poor roo! I hope he's ok - must be such a worry for you too.

We just went over him with a fine tooth comb and other than the wing, missing feathers and shock he seems to be ok. We do have some matted feather areas that could be from the styptic powder/vetrycin mix though. Looks like most of the blood was just having his feathers ripped out. He ate a few treats from my hand but I haven’t seen him drink anything yet- unfortunately no one is home tomorrow all day, so fingers crossed.

Would appreciate you keeping us posted, really hope he makes it :fl

We FINALLY got the big girl roosts in and they're a hit! I had to put everyone up last night, but today I raised their baby roost up (it had just been sitting across the cinder block base) and they can use that to get up. All of them put themselves to roost tonight at sundown! What smart chickies.

Looks lovely, no wonder they like it so much.

Any know reason why the three aren't roosting with the others? I just curious.
