2018 Newbie Chat!

Just curious, who will you put his girls with when he goes?
One of the bantam cockerels.
Most likely one of the Belgians I have coming in May.
I wish I had never rehomed Hector my bantam Dark Brahma.
But you live and learn from your mistakes.
A bantam roo doesn’t need 10-15 ladies so I’ll probably keep two.
I’ll also have my little D’Uccle boy and the bantam buff Cochin.
Thinking about putting the two new EE pullets with Oliver.
Angus has always been mean to Taka my older EE.
My LF chicks are running out of space in their little coop.
There’s plenty of space when they’re outside but not a lot inside.

You can tell Spring is here...raccoons everywhere. They seem to be on all sides of my property. I couldn't figure out why dog prints were on the fence on the opposite side until I saw the raccoo coming from the neighbors and walking my fence line on that side to the back. The dog doesn't stop, i have to up his food again, due to activity level. I'm starting to get anxiety thinking about it. I can already predict a sleepless summer..

They are remodeling soon at work and it looks like I may be moving back to the location 5 minutes from home during construction. At least iwilli be able to come home and check i everyone at lunch again.

This may be silly question but what would happen if a dog peed on the electric fence? I'd like to open up the area and give the dog access all theway around but I worry about that. Generally a male dog sniffs before they pee, so he would get shocked(I have let them all get shocked at least once)--they figured it out pretty fast. .

My husband says the electricity would travel up the dogs urine stream.

Angus is going away!!
Yesterday he spurred DH!

DH has a puncture wound on his leg.

We were going to send Angus to freezer camp but I decided to post him in a Facebook group I’m a part of called Treasure Valley Backyard Chickens.
I offered him for free and got an immediate response from a man who lives about 45 minutes away and has 40 hens.
I’m glad Angus will get another chance.

I did disclose his aggression towards DH and that he’s never been around kids.
He’s meeting DH tomorrow at 5:30 to take him.

I assume if close enough they'll get a shock - as for the fence I doubt it'd get hurt.

I hope it goes well, please keep me posted on the outcome - really hoping the guy will take him, he s still young enough to out grow the aggression and I'm thinking it might just be your dh he feels threatened by and he'll be ok with someone else - I really hope so, I'm so fond of him.

There's videos of dogs getting a shock through electricity travelling up, its supposed to be funny but I don't find things like that funny, dogs aren't fatally harmed though

I couldn't watch any of tbe videos because I don't like that stuff either. I know that it can cause a shock just not sure how bad.

Maybe put another temp kind of fencing a couple feet away to protect the dog is the best option.
