2018 Newbie Chat!

Oh wow! Didn't see that post before I answered! What a terrible night you're having! Good to see everyone safe in the house. so scary!

I could not leave them out there. I think they think I lost my mind. I have to get water bottles and dishes together tomorrow. Find something to give them a roost and connect all the cages somehow so they have enough room. I think I can make it a total of 10X4, if I get one more crate I can do 4x14. Not sure what to do with the ducks. I'm thinking if I can find some kind of gate I can put water in the tub and they can go in and out(with a step stool. Ugh...

The shell color is just the shell color.
Each hen lays an egg with a specific color.
If she has Araucana/Ameracauna genes then she may lay a blue or green egg.
What breed is she?
We were told she is a RIR hybrid but to be honest I think she may have a tiny little RIR in her but I think shes a mixture of more than one breed. My breeder friend saw a picture of her and Pedro when they were a lot younger and he said he can see the RIR in them but that their marking are Legbar, Jellybean looks very much like a cream l
Legbar, but their eggs are usually blue, Jelly bean's eggs are hard to explain, kind of greenish like an extra dark olive colour that looks like it should be brown. Yesterday's egg has what looks like a coating on it, looked powdery but didn't come off when I scratched at it. Jellybean also has a few very tiny and short feathers between her talons on one foot, which as far as I'm aware, neither Legbar nor RIR have so I'm thinking a throw back of another breed in her family tree? I will get pics up later of Jellybean and her eggs and maybe you'll be able to shed some light on the matter for me?

I got trees down everywhere. I got a big one blocking the road. Even the pine of evergreens or whatever they are are snapping.

Will my house insurance cover any of this? I'm assuming removal is not going to be cheap here. The wind is crazy and I'm sure more are coming down.

The smoke detectors are hard wired and one is going off, the roosters must think I can't hear it because they are crowing for me... It's only 3am and not a wink of sleep.

Not sure how this electric is goibv to play out considering no one can get down the roads because of downed trees.

I got no water for the ducks. I'm on well and there is no electric. I was able to get enough water for the dogs and the chickens.

I called the township about the tree in the road and my insurance for the other trees. They may cover removal and cutting if unsafe trees.

Looks like these two will have to go and I love these trees. They are very crooked and leaning.

How are you going to cope with no water for the ducks?
