(at LEAST 3,000 pixels wide & 2,000 pixels tall)
Can anyone describe how to crop image to this exact size? (I'm using Lightroom 5.7) I don't think I can just eyeball it.
A lot of people have submitted vertical images. @sumi do you adjust the size if it doesn't fit calendar requirements or must it be sized correctly before submitting it?

It doesn't have to be those exact dimensions, but at least that, i.e. big enough for printing, etc. We can adjust and work around the images that are not the right dimensions, but landscape vs portrait dimensions makes it much easier for us!

Are you trying to crop out background stuff you don’t want shown or what? The guideline is a minimum size to get good resolution when it goes to printing the calendar full size page. Smaller images blur when blown up to be printed on a full page. A larger image is fine.
If you are trying to crop something out, you can crop and resave the image on your computer with a different name, and then check the size of the new image thru it’s properties tab. Saving with a new name won’t erase the original, in case you cropped too small, go back to the original and try again.

Okay, well maybe I don't understand the relationship between resolution and sizing. I am assuming I can just remove what I don't want? Am I changing the resolution?
Here is the type of situation I am describing. Pic 1 is uncropped, I need to remove some background. Pic 2 shows both rabbits closer, Pic 3, just one.
I have been trying to include 2 chickens in one photo, but usually one isn't sharp enough, so I crop it out. But if I do this, I assume I have decreased the resolution.
edit: My DH says get closer. Or use a different lens.

When you crop, you don’t change the original resolution, but the original has to be high enough that when you blow it up to letter-page size, it doesn’t distort. If you start with very low resolution, blowing it up distorts it. If you start high, you can crop and still have enough to blow it up.
Maybe someone else can explain it better. :p

I saved your original and the 3rd pic. See the dimensions. Even the original is not big enough from my save, which could compress it, so check on your computer. If you check the file properties, it should show you the dimensions.
Sorry, I’m probably not helping much. :D

Something else to keep in mind. When you post to BYC, the uploader resizes your images to 2000 pixels on the longest side. Everyone who submitted an image will likely have to supply highres images if they're chosen and the shot can't scale up cleanly.

As a test, pick a couple random images and download them. Check the properties. Max will be 200 pixels. I even double checked my own, and the originals were 4928x3264. That was scaled to 2000x1325.

I am hesitant to put words in the admin team's mouth, but If your image or images get chosen, I'm sure they'll be able to help you get them the high res images they need. Worst case, I'm willing to throw my photochop skills at it too in order to help upscale images if needed.
