These pieces of split straw mixed with zeolite keep the coop smelling fresh!

I LOVE using these. So easy! Even works well with a heater in a 5 gallon bucket. I've only had them gunk up twice in the two years using them (with algae, fixed very easily with a pipe cleaner) but otherwise have worked perfect. I wish they did create bigger versions for ducks with bigger bills, but the ducks don't seem to mind too much.

I purchased this welded cage from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079RT56DX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I absolutely love it! I got it first and foremost for my ducks. They were too big a coop but too little to let free-range yet. Ducks are pretty messy and I keep this cage on concrete. The way the cage stands up, allows me to hose off the floor (after mucking up the straw and woodchips) for easy cleaning.

Now that I've owned it and trust it, I'm going to purchase two more. I'm keeping the one for the concrete back porch--for sleeping at night. Two for future gardens. The ducks will take less than a week to completely remove the grass and fertilize the area. Once the grass is gone, I can add straw. One the straw is trampled and mucky, I can move the cage and cover my new garden bed with leaves--ready for planting in the Spring. The 8X4 size is a great size for each garden. Duck poop is not a hot fertilizer, so it will be ready to plant whenever I am ready.

To be honest, I gave the flock two of these as a pre-Christmas gift to replace the panel heater and lamp we had. It is so worth it. The outdoor temperatures were in single digits this week, but the birds had a direct heat source over their roosts and the lowest ambient temperature inside the coop was 20 degrees higher than outside. The best we have done before is ten degrees above outside temps. It was a splurge, but the two heaters are safer and use less electricity than what we had. I think they will have a cozy Christmas this year.
