I am using one of these cheap incubators HHD. Don't get excited about the temp- I am warming it up, and it is better with regular thermometers that read the right temp I have 2 inside I never trust the digital reading. Thank you to those that gave me that advice last year. Also I lowered the heat sensor to be on top of the eggs.
My eggs go in tomorrow room temping them now, I am waiting on 2 more dozen, here is what I have so far...(I only have room for 48 I have 54, so I will put extras in a home made jobber, and if any eggs do not develop I can swap-m out.) Eggs in pink tray are from ID I got from Ebay one state over, no saddles Blue copper marans. My other eggs so far do not have saddles. purple tray is from a health food store, but the eggs were from a farm in Brewster, I have eggs hatch from them before, but they were in a fridge, I don't know what the hatch percentage with be with them but the air cell looks good... the last tray is from a gal friend in my town, and her hens are young, last springs birds. Her husband gave me the eggs and just wants any blue -green eggs that hatch, I told him I would give him the one blue egg from the Brewster bunch, and any blue eggs from the 2 doz I have coming tomorrow, (maybe 2 more in that) 2 of his own had cracks, I put nail polish on the crack and will put those eggs in one of the home made incubators to keep from the regular eggs.
The next batch of (24) eggs I am waiting on tomorrow, will probably look very much like the purple and the green trays. I am going to count the whole hatch percentage, and also make separate hatch percentages since some eggs came from diff locations.
I mostly wanted to hatch the blue copper maran eggs but I had room and will def have a full house. My friends will get some eggs, and the extra birds will get homes. I even have someone who wants my roosters.
