2021 Chick Order

Pics
Here's the 3 side by side. The darkest is from a one of my cochins, the two tans are from something else

Finished the hen pen (until the male's have their spots ready they'll be here too since the winter will clear the girls systems out anyways). Moved most of the birds down, but didn't manage to catch a mosaic male and Isabella male as well as a Cornish female, a brown Leghorn female and two silver Leghorn females. Also have 3 males that are in cages as they are slated next to go.

I have a lavender Cochin pullet that's moving into the mixed flock for now at least because for some reason literally ever male goes after her to breed. She's bare up to her wing joints and literally gets dog piled by at least a trio of males whenever they spot her

Gah, the flightiness has started getting on my nerves 😅 was moving my grow outs to their new pen and out of 9 leghorns, I got just the Isabella trio and my broken toed silver moved. The other silvers (2) the rose combed brown, the red and the second Isabella male all squeezed out of the bin and are now running amuck looking for literally probably another 60 birds that were there this morning.

Still gorgeous as sin though!

So....

My Japanese might be broody. She's sleeping in the box on a ton of eggs (I have not been a worthy collector lately with any of my groups, rip.), And I saw a light brown egg, which means she may be on a few.

She lays white, my Cochin apparently doesn't.

So....

I might have Cochin babies hatch from pullet eggs.

And yes, I know that pullet eggs aren't the best to hatch, but so are wrinkled and odd shaped eggs and I've gotten a few to hatch (the odd shaped ones have gotten development, but nothing late term or hatching. I think that hen just has problems though causing it cause she's laid paperthin and malformed eggs all of her 6-8 years of being alive).

If they live, they live, if they don't they don't. Their odds already aren't amazing since I've got a horny cockerel in the group (he should be just fine with the 3 girls that actually like him though and hopefully just leaves my Japanese alone)

I also have 3 males in the chopping cages because they're just awful breeders. They literally eat, sleep and harass. And crow.

So, I know what I'm probably going to do on Tuesday since I think my males actually are either even or outnumbering my females in this group still.
