2021 Chick Order

Pics
Here's the Japanese nest. Candles the whites, but it's too light still to candle the darks. Actually took 2 from the nest after the picture that were either not developing or too early still to tell. Looks like a mix between 5 and 3 days for the most part, marking and handling tonight hopefully. She's a flighty broody though and I don't want to scare her away.

My poor Maggie, she is the bottom in the trio without a doubt. Someone tore the back tine off her comb. She also was quick to spot a birthmark and was drilling the top of my head while I was doing the flood and water (she was in the coop doorway so she was right above my head since the water and food are in the run below).

I think she laid an egg though today or yesterday. I'm fairly confident my Orpington girl is still too young.

I have dubbed my two lavender Cochin pullets Theodosia and Burr. Burr is up at the coop because she's a honeypot or something to the cockerels. She still doesn't like sleeping in the coop, but she's staring to heal.

Big Boy is glad to have his ladies to himself.

The Cochin are all doing great. Crispy is in the nest with the Japanese for some reason tonight. Curious why, but I wasn't going to investigate since it's not hurting anyone. You can kinda see them in the close up. Crispy is the black blob and the Japanese is the white.

And yes, pens are being cleaned tomorrow. Got off over an hour late from work and had to literally knock pullets off their roost to catch them for tomorrow and that took another hour, so it was 10:00 when i got home and i kust threw my fishsticks in the over for dinner

Listed (I think) all of my extra males on Craigslist for free and already got someone to take my extra male Isabella and a pheonix male from last year. I'm so glad they went with him though, he said that someone stole his old rooster and killed it for its feathers and he just wanted pretty males for his flock again.

6 more males found a home (hoping not for food since they were very particular on who they wanted). Now I have 1 less Minorca, 3 press bantam Cornish and 2 less mosaics
Well the Cornish and the mosaics at least will not be for food. The guy was picking up birds for him, his mother and a friend. He used to raise the standard dark Cornish and so he was interested to find put there were bantams. He also had to look up what a mosaic was and was really interested in them, so he got one for him and one for the friend. Was a bit disappointed I didn't have any females of those two breeds for sale, but what can ya do?

I'm glad that they're going to what seems like a knowledgeable home. It says something when someone does research on a free roosters breed.
