No, good question though. Cropping is okay and long as when the image is cropped that it meets the size requirements of at least 3000 pixels wide by 2000 pixels tall.

Example:

Original (6000 x 4000)

Cropped (4012 x 2688)

Resized of cropped (716 x 480)

Some can be cropped, depends on the picture. One of last year's pictures was submitted in portrait mode & was cropped to landscape.
