2022 Chick Order

Ni I just started downsizing because I was overwhelmed. I sold alot to friends we had ordered 38 chicks from McMurray hatchery in March of last year. I ordered a few bantams but the rest I bought from a chicken facebook group or friends.

I have less than 10! One bag of feed a month!

We go through 200lbs about every 3-4 weeks. But I really enjoy those little birds. and we are homesteading , so trying to provide as much of our own food as possible.

I am also hatching 1/2 dozen Cream Legbar Eggs

We have room for 30. So our local guy said we can pick a couple extras when we pick up our order, which will fill us up if we have a few that don’t hatch or don’t make it through shipping. We are picking up those chicks the week after the hatch is due and 2 days after our other order is due to arrive, so we will know how many randoms to add!

I help my aunt sells eggs on the farm. This will put her at about 50 total with me taking a handful for my own yard.

After this year we will replace as needed. Maybe 10-15 max each year. Will hopefully start selling local hatching eggs too once our roos get big enough to fertilize! It’s so exciting!

The feed costs are pretty exorbitant right now, but when they all start laying I can pay for feed that way. All in all, I am in it for this reason:

My husband was just looking through the McMurray catalog earlier this week and decided we need to get gold laced Polish too. I’ll place another order after we get taxes back for those, Whiting True Blues, a Bielefelder or two, and possibly something frizzled (though I am thinking locally for that)

The true blues were sold out on a lot of dates, so I wouldn’t wait much longer! They don’t charge your card until they ship your order. I am a very bad influence for those with chicken math problems.
