In the Brooder
*Update* just about 2 mins later after typing this I checked on her and there was a poop..it was a large one fairly normal..a little loose and had the calcium spot on it (Ill try and post a pic), and then 30 mins later I took her outside to say hi to her sister and she pooped the creamy stinky brownish type poop, but she still did it laying down.
I have a 21 week old Lakenvelder (Necked Betty who was my late bloomer and didn't get her adult feathers for 3 months) who started laying eggs on 9/1. I have 5 total chickens all aged within days of each other. She is the only one laying at this point. She was laying an egg every other day, until she laid one on 9/7 and then again 9/8 I noticed her in the nesting box and when I opened the door she was already standing up and low and behold an egg. Later that day I noticed her laying down in the yard and not hanging with the flock, I assumed she was just extra tired from laying an egg two days in a row, but a couple more hours later I noticed she had moved but still laying down and I started to worry. I watched her follow the others into the coop to roost for the night and she seemed to walk oddly, and her right wing was drooped a bit, she lost her balance trying to climb the ladder. I brought her into the house checked her out for obvious things. Her vent was fine, feathers were clean, nothing seemed broken, her wattle and comb were red and the comb was upright (although it is a very little comb). I figured she isn't egg bound even though those are some of the symptoms. I haven't actually seen her poop since I wasn't really watching each of them poop. I have checked her crop and there was nothing in it, that I could tell.
Today:
I have separated her.
I have given her Krill Oil (the juice of 2 capsules, 500mg).
I have given her Probiotic water, but I have to put it in front of her because she isn't getting up to drink it, but does drink when I put it near her.
I have given her layer crumble with grit and she ate quite a bit, again after it being put in front of her.
Still no poop, I figured that is the next thing to really look at.
The things I have changed recently:
I changed from grower crumble to Layer pellets (because she started laying). I also add about 1 tablespoon of oyster shells to this mix every morning in a pan.
I mowed the lawn on 9/6 and dumped the clippings off on the edge of the woods (I live in a pine forest) of my property (only about 40 yards from the yard), but I did see all of them digging in but didn't think anything of it. The lawn does not have any fertilizers or bug killers or anything on it.
I have not ever wormed my girls..I had no idea I was supposed to, but on a good note their poop doesn't show any signs that I can tell. But I'm headed to the store now to get dewormer, in case this is her issue.
Does anyone else have any suggestions on what it could be?
