22 chicks hatched and only 3 of them were males. What would cause this?

I hatched 22 chickens in February. They are all around 6 weeks old now and out of 22 only 3 of them are male. There is a slight chance one of the remaining 19 are males but after examining each of them I am fairly certain they are not. I've heard pretty much every species is 50/50 male/female offspring. Is there something that can be done to screw with that or did I just get lucky and only get 3 roosters?

That is what i would call a GREAT HATCH.

Yeah truth be told I was hoping for more males. They were all mutts, from my own chickens.. first hatch ever. I was hoping I would get more and then I could select the neatest rooster and probably find homes or eat the other ones. But I will probably just wait until summer time and hatch some more.

Read something about how high temps in the bator might influence the outcome. But I didn't put much stock in that because no matter if I dd higher or lower temps, I still ended up with more Roos.

Are you using ACV in your chicken's water? If so, that could be your culprit. ACV has been used for some time by those who wish more female offspring...worked on my hatches, worked on my meat/4-H show rabbits and seems to work in the professional horse racing community...they've been using this technique for years also. I've even read about a sheep farmer that has an 85% return on ewe lambs since starting to use ACV in the water.

I'm not sure what AVC is but I don't use anything special.. just what comes out of my well.
