We noticed one of our 22 week old hens this morning limping in the coop. It seems her right foot is turned inwards and she is limping on it. She was fine last night at 8:00PM and reviewing the coop cameras I don’t see any incidents that could have caused this. While I don’t expect this to be a normal occurrence, has anyone seen this issue short of an injury? Not sure what to do with her, she’s currently laying down but has a hard time moving around on it. Any input or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Is the foot still reacting normally?
What is her typical diet?
Other than being twisted inward she limps on it and shows obvious signs of pain. Diet consists of Kalmbach 20% flock maker crumbles, Kalmback Henhouse Reserve as scratch. They get fresh vegetables every couple of days, yesterday they had two large tomatoes.

She's a cutie!

What you feed yours is exactly what we feed ours so it's doubtful it's a vitamin deficiency, although we never know.

I would soak her foot for about 10 minutes in some warm water. You can put Epsom salts in it if you have any. After drying her off, see if you can tell better now if she's got an injury. Also check if it feels warmer than the other foot, but do this before you soak it so they're both equal temperature.

It could just be a sprain, and soaking it like that would make her feel so much better too. I would keep her in a small area or pen so she can't move around so much for a few days.

I'd also give her some chicken vitamins like Poultry Cell or Nutri-Drench either in her water, directly, or mixed into some mash. Those will help her if she's injured, and a vitamin boost wouldn't hurt anyway.

Thank you for the prompt reply, I give this a shot. We’ve separated her from the rest of the flock as they had already started tormenting her. Crazy animals!

I'm assuming she'll get better, so when you put her back with the rest, can you put in a lower perch for her? That way she doesn't reinjure it jumping so far. I'm assuming your perches are a few feet high.
