And still not a egg. Do some chickens just not lay eggs? These are rhode island reds.and havent a clue as to why they arnt laying. Good food, yard to do the chicken strut, fresh veg. every three days or so. LOTS of fresh water. Only thing to show for it is lots of poop.
Still looking for suggestions on what to do or to just start over with new birds

you will probably going have to wait another 2 to 4 weeks before they might start laying. Some breeds take longer before they start laying.

Be patient! In the big scheme of things, chickens mature WAY fast compared to a lot of other animals (especially us). In just 5 months they go from being IN an egg to LAYING an egg, which I think is amazing.

Although some will lay before 20 weeks, I generally don't expect them to start prior to 20 weeks, and if the first egg doesn't come until they are 25 weeks, that's pretty normal too. I had one pullet who didn't lay her first egg until she was 7 months old, and my Sultan didn't lay until she was 11 months old.

RIR's are good layers who usually start right in that 20-25 week mark, so eggs are probably not too far in your future.

Oh my word!! 7 months is forever when your waiting on your first eggs! Mine are only 10 weeks, and even 20 weeks feels like it'll never get here...;/ ~Naomi
